Sevenoaks swimmers produced a night of scintillating swimming in Round 2 of the National Arena League with the A team heading off early for their journey to host club, Havant and Waterloo in Hampshire, while the B team headed off to the familiar regional swimming waters of hosts, Crawley.

The A team were up against formidable opposition, facing local friendly rivals, RTW Monson, Beckenham, Amersham and last year’s National overall winners, Guildford City. They had a fantastic night and were in great form despite being a man down in the 10/u relays.

We had 18 wins out of 45 events which was impressive against such excellent opposition.

A superb performance from our 13/u girls  resulted in them being unbeaten in every individual event as well as both free and medley relays; Rose Compton won back, Maddy Glen breast, Ellie Vowell fly and Zoe Naylor-Perrott free!   These amazing girls went on to assist 15 year old Frankie Whiting to win her relays too and she swam a superb individual back to first place also.

Our 15/u boys were also in extremely fine fettle and won both their relays, with George Tyler winning his breast and Nathan Rodrigues the free. They were joined by Chris Lee on who swam a sterling race on back and Ellis Stanhope on fly who was only just touched out of first place by 0.6 seconds.

In the youngest age group (10/11yrs), Kara Dimond won her breast and Eva Okaro the free, both very outstanding swims and Izabella Okaro just being beaten to 2nd by less than 0.5 second in the butterfly. The young 10/11 boys also put in a sterling effort in all their races.  13 year old Ben Ward had a very convincing win in the breaststroke and the 13/U team swam strong races in their medley and free relays to bring home 2nd place in both.

The Open age group girls faced very strong opposition but still held their own to gain a 2nd in the medley and 3rd by a smidgeon in the free relay. The Open boys were awesome also winning both their relays; Michael Jacobs on back, Seb Stewart breast, Joe Gaster fly and our Rio Olympian, Joe Choong on free. Sebastian Stewart was the only individual winner with another amazing 1.04 on his 100 breast.  These swimmers were joined by Callum Brophy and Nathan to give us the most exciting race of the night, winning the 6 x 50 squadron to tumultuous applause from all.

The final results were:

Guildford 246, Sevenoaks 240, Beckenham 161, RTW Monson 151, Havant & Waterlooville 137, Amersham 114

Well done to all swimmers who represented the A team, you all swam superbly and we look forward eagerly to the last round on 10th December where we are travelling to Wycombe when we are in the top gala in 5th position with:

Oxford, Wycombe, Guildford, Thanet and Bromley.

All support will be very welcome as we go all out to try and improve on last year’s 5th position.....

The B Team had yet another successful arena round despite being up against some very tough opposition. They faced local rivals Maidstone, Bromley B, Erith & District, Redhill & Reigate along with hosts Crawley.

The incredible swimmers managed a total of 23 first or second placings with the girls 9/11 team of Millie Armstrong, Emily Brown, Isabelle Mackenzie and Jessica Harmer picking up an astonishing 6 of those, including 1st place in the freestyle and medley relays.  Isabelle and Emily pulled out all the stops to gain individual 1st places in the 50m freestyle & 50m breaststroke respectively with Millie and Isabelle pushing hard for 2nd place in the 50m Back and 50m Fly.

In the 13/U team the girls, Millie Childs, Isabel Tyler, Aoife Lauerman and Grace Mitchell managed a superb 1st place in the medley relay with the13/U boys, Oliver Glen, Oscar Wilson, Robert Allen and Zac Raymond fighting hard for 2nd place in the medley and freestyle relays.  Both Isabel Tyler and Oscar Wilson went on to swim incredible personal bests to pull off fabulous 2nd place for both in the 100m breaststroke individual races.

In the 15/U age group all swimmers were only 14 bar two. The boys, Ethan Hunter, James Barlow, Ewan Livingston and Andre Strydom still managed to win the medley relay with Andre (14) managing to win both his individual races, 100m breast and 100m fly  with Ewan (14)  managing a great 2nd place in 100m free. Emma Wilson (14) swam a strong 100m back for 2nd place and Aoife (13) swam up an age group to swim almost the same time as she managed 6 races later for the 13/U both in 100m Fly.

With the exception of Lewis Roberts (to whom we were extremely grateful for making the journey back from university) swimming the 100 Fly at a blistering pace to secure 1st place and 2nd in 100 Back individuals, David Wilson (17) and Amy Farthing (18) the rest of the age group were made up of much younger swimmers, mainly 14 – 15 yrs old swimming up, which is tough against much older opposition, however this didn’t deter Sarah Williams (14) who still managed a great 2nd place in the Ladies Open 100m breaststroke.

There were many races where the only difference between 1st and 4th place was less than a second!

Final positions were:

Crawley, 235, Maidstone 206, Sevenoaks B 188, Erith & District 165, Bromley 134 and Redhill & Reigate 115.

Well done to all the swimmers for their exceptional performances and hopefully we can keep the momentum going into the last round where we will face hosts Black Lion, Thanet B, Croydon Amphibians,  East Grinstead and Erith & District.
