Sevenoaks Swimming club hosted round one of the Kent Junior League 2017 at the Leisure Centre on Saturday 10th June. The KJL is the leading team competition for 13 years and under in the county. The Sevenoaks A team were last year’s winners and B team are newly promoted to the premier division. The fixture included both Sevenoaks A & B teams, Beckenham A, Royal Tunbridge Wells Monson A, and Shepway A.
The A team were seeded in top position and quickly justified this rating with a string of first and seconds places. Amelia Childs and Louis Hayes shone in the flagship 200m IM events with Childs winning in a time that places her 25th in Britain and Hayes recording a time which makes him 14th in Britain.
Amongst so many brilliant performances and personal bests special mention goes to 10 year old Eva Okaro who produced astonishingly quick times in 50m freestyle (28.50 secs) and 50m butterfly (31.25 secs) . Both these times top the British rankings by some margin.
The B team performed above expectation and did a fantastic job to finish a superb 3rd place. The whole team performed superbly and demonstrated the depth and quality that Sevenoaks currently has. There were many great performances and personal bests, but special mention must go to Oliver Hamilton who was the only swimmer from the B team to beat a Sevenoaks A team swimmer. In the 12/u 100m breaststroke, Oliver smashed out an 8 second PB to go 1.27.43. Other swimmers that PBed were Isabella Munoz, Ameila Tovey, Katie Vowell, Ben Strebel, Martha Roberts, Thomas Hunt, Verner Krynauw, Samriddhi Das, Isabelle MacKenzie, Daisy Widdowson, Emma Noble, George Rehbein, Zack Murphy and Edward Smith.
Every single race was fought to the last stroke. This was best demonstrated by Emma Noble who produced a superb last 50 in the Girls 12/u 4x50 Freestyle relay. Emma dived in 5th and fought to the bitter end to finish 2nd! All the swimmers demonstrated this toughness and it was a major factor towards the superb finishing result.
The final scores were Sevenoaks A (1st) 272.5, Beckenham A 236, Sevenoaks B 157, RTW Monson A 149.5, Maidstone 136, Shepway A 115
