Sevenoaks SC Masters Swimmer, Shelley Robinson, competed in this year's Swim England Open Water Festival 1.5K Masters Swim at the Rother Valley Country Park near Sheffield.
After all the rain over the last couple of weeks, the water had been billed at 17°C which meant that under the new rules wetsuits would be compulsory. However, the temperature perked up to 18.4°C which produced a quandary - wetsuit or no wetsuit.
In the end, Shelley was the only swimmer in her wave hardy enough to opt for a swimsuit-only swim. The choice was a good one as she finished three-and-a-half minutes faster than last year - and in gold medal position, beating the second-placed swimmer in her 65-69 age-group by a margin of 26 seconds.
A good day’s Open Water swimming!
